The short answer

Magnetotherapy uses changing magnetic fields. Frequency and field strength are different properties. The Tesla Pulse model specification describes strong, low-frequency pulses; Biomedical is a different PEMF system.

What does PEMF mean?

PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic fields. An applicator generates a changing field. This differs from delivering current through electrodes on the skin.

A consumer magnet and professional PEMF equipment are not equivalent concepts. Even professional magnetotherapy is not a uniform treatment. Compare the specific systems.

Frequency and field strength are different

Frequency in hertz describes repetition per second. Magnetic field strength can be expressed in tesla or gauss. A strong field is not necessarily high-frequency: the units describe different properties.

Ask which parameter a specification refers to and under what conditions it was measured. A higher maximum value alone is not evidence of better treatment.

Biomedical and Tesla Pulse

Sixtus Italia lists Biomedical at 2–100 Hz and up to 100 gauss for its regular output. The Tesla Pulse model specification lists 0.5–5 Hz and up to 1 tesla. A name or a single number is not enough to compare these devices.

Specific model information takes priority

The general magnetotherapy category refers to Tesla Pulse as high-frequency. Its own specification states 0.5–5 Hz and low-frequency pulses. This platform follows the model specification.

What is known about bone healing?

A Cochrane review of delayed healing of long bones found insufficient conclusive evidence to establish use on that basis. It included four small studies, with searches up to May 2010. This is historical evidence, not a current comprehensive assessment of every system.

A theoretical mechanism is different from demonstrated healing in your situation. A fracture or delayed healing requires assessment by the responsible clinician, including other treatment options.

Assessing equipment for a practice

Identify the patients and goals you intend to address, then request research relevant to that goal and system. Device size and handpiece design affect workflow; they do not establish suitability for every diagnosis.

Consider application time, accessories, maintenance and responsibilities using the selection checklist.

Discuss implants and relevant conditions

Report a pacemaker or other electronic implant before use. Discuss pregnancy, other implants and relevant conditions so suitability can be assessed against the current instructions.

Request the instructions for the actual model and applicator. A general internet list is not complete screening or permission to begin without guidance.

Frequently asked questions

What does PEMF stand for?

PEMF means pulsed electromagnetic fields.

Is Tesla Pulse high-frequency?

Not according to its model specification: Sixtus Italia states 0.5–5 Hz and low-frequency pulses. High field strength does not mean high frequency.

How do hertz and tesla differ?

Hertz describes frequency; tesla describes magnetic field strength. They are different properties.

Is higher field strength always better?

No. A maximum value does not prove a better outcome. Consider the system, application, evidence and safety together.

Does magnetotherapy accelerate every fracture’s healing?

This cannot be promised generally. Evidence must be relevant to the specific fracture and system.

Can I use it with a pacemaker?

Have suitability specifically assessed beforehand, using the device instructions and information about the implant.
